Punjab to Set Up State-of-the-Art Electronic Recycling Plant in PPP Model: PPCB

Patiala, 21 January, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has taken a decisive step to address the rapidly growing crisis of electronic waste in the state. Notices were issued to 26 leading electronic goods manufacturers and producers operating in India for their failure to ensure effective collection and responsible recycling of e-waste generated in Punjab.

While most brands are registered on the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) portal and procure certificates from recyclers based in other states, the reality on ground is that very little e-waste is actually collected or recycled within Punjab. PPCB Chairperson Reena Gupta said, “Mere compliance on paper will no longer be tolerated. Companies earning revenue from Punjab must show commitment in responsible waste management.

Punjab is planning to set up a large-scale, state-of-the-art e-waste eco-park under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, based on global best practices and near-zero environmental impact technologies.

Companies appearing before the Board have been asked to pool resources to support this facility and strengthen their collection networks across Punjab, making it easier for consumers to return end-of-life electronics.

PPCB is also directing companies to prioritise recycling through authorised e-waste recyclers based in Punjab, thereby creating a credible, scientific and environmentally safe electronic waste recycling ecosystem within the state.
