SAS Nagar (Mohali), Punjab, December 4, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)
In a landmark step towards rural cleanliness and environmental sustainability, a major four-party Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between the Department of Rural Development, Government of Punjab; the Department of Water Supply & Sanitation, Government of Punjab; the Gram Panchayat; and Human Rights Protection Group & MFP Federation, an organisation in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations.
The MoU marks the formal collaboration to operate the Plastic Waste Management Unit (PWMU) for villages of Mohali under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Grameen). The PWMU — developed as per the Plastic Waste Management Rules and SBM(G) guidelines — will serve as a central hub for scientific segregation, baling, recycling, and environmentally responsible handling of rural plastic waste.
Present during the signing were Mehakmeet Singh Gill, Block Development and Panchayat Officer; Prabhloch Singh, Founder of Human Rights Protection Group & MFP Federation; Paramveer Singh, Sub-Divisional Engineer; Hardip Singh, Assistant District Sanitation Officer; and other officials.
Officials stated that this partnership will strengthen Punjab’s commitment to rural sanitation and help create model villages with sustainable waste systems, reduced plastic pollution, and improved environmental awareness.
