The Punjab Government has released nearly ₹255 crore in financial assistance to persons with disabilities so far, benefiting around 2.84 lakh people across the state, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said on Saturday.
The minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state government remains committed to protecting the dignity, security and rights of persons with disabilities and supporting their journey towards greater independence and self-reliance.
Dr. Baljit Kaur said the government believes that disability should not become a barrier to an individual’s aspirations, dignity or progress. She added that, alongside financial assistance, the government is focused on creating opportunities for confidence, independence and equal participation in society.
According to the minister, around 2.84 lakh beneficiaries are currently receiving regular financial assistance under the scheme, helping them meet essential needs and improve their financial security.
To further strengthen social security for persons with disabilities, the Punjab Government has made a budgetary provision of ₹498.16 crore for the current financial year. Dr. Baljit Kaur said the allocation reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive welfare and continued support for eligible beneficiaries.
She said the government is working to ensure that welfare scheme benefits reach eligible people transparently and on time. Emphasising the importance of collective responsibility, she said a society’s commitment to progress is reflected in how it supports vulnerable citizens.
The minister appealed to persons with disabilities and their families to avail themselves of the benefits available under government welfare schemes. She also urged citizens, public representatives and local institutions to help identify eligible beneficiaries to ensure that no deserving person is left out of the support they are entitled to receive.
