Punjab Police have registered 58,924 FIRs and arrested 76,751 alleged drug smugglers during the 18-month-old anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, launched on March 1, 2025, on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The campaign has resulted in the seizure of 3,776 kg of heroin, along with substantial quantities of other narcotics and drug proceeds, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) SPS Parmar said on Tuesday.
Under the directions of DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, police teams have been conducting anti-drug operations every day across all 28 police districts of the state since the campaign began.
Besides heroin, the seizures include 944 kg of opium, 448 quintals of poppy husk, 129 kg of charas, 1,298 kg of ganja, 70 kg of ICE and 62.33 lakh intoxicant pills/tablets. Police have also confiscated ₹21.99 crore in drug money, according to the ADGP.
The police have simultaneously continued their crackdown on organised crime through the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, which entered its 224th day on Tuesday.
During the latest operations, police teams conducted 598 raids and arrested 370 persons, recovering four weapons. Preventive action was also taken against 164 persons, while five proclaimed offenders were arrested.
The police said members of the public can anonymously provide information about wanted criminals and gangsters, as well as share inputs concerning crime and criminal activities, through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946.
