With the aim of carrying forward the timeless message of social, economic and political equality propagated by Sri Guru Ravidas Ji nearly six centuries ago, the Punjab Government has decided to launch a year-long series of state-level programmes from February 1 to commemorate the 650th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji, said Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema here on Friday at Mohali.
The Finance Minister, who paid obeisance to Sri Guru Ravidas Ji on his 649th Jayanti at Mohali and participated in the Nagar Kirtan taken out from Sri Guru Ravidas Bhawan, Phase-7, Mohali, said that the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government is firmly committed to propagating the teachings and ideology of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji among the masses, with special emphasis on the younger generation.
MLA Kulwant Singh Mohali also accompanied the Minister during the welcome of the Nagar Kirtan and said that the State Government would observe the 650th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji with full devotion and wide public participation.
Disclosing a major initiative, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Punjab Government has taken a historic decision to establish the Sri Guru Ravidas Bani Adhyayan Centre near Dera Ballan in Jalandhar to ensure global dissemination of the teachings of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji. He said that the State Government has already purchased more than Nine acres of land at villages Naugaja and Faridpur at a cost of Rs 10.50 crore for the Centre, making it a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country.
The Finance Minister said that the Adhyayan Centre will function as a dedicated hub for research, preservation and dissemination of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings through lectures, seminars, publications, educational programmes and community-based initiatives, focusing on the core values of equality, compassion and social justice.
He further informed that a high-level committee, headed by him (FM), has been constituted by Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann to chalk out a comprehensive roadmap for organising events and programmes across Punjab during the year-long celebrations.
“Our Government is honoured to be associated with this noble cause. These initiatives will serve as guiding lights for future generations and will significantly contribute towards bridging social and economic divides,” the Finance Minister added.
A large number of devotees from different walks of life participated in the Nagar Kirtan held on this occasion. Several local leaders, including the Chairperson of the District Planning Committee, SAS Nagar, Prabhjot Kaur were also present.
