The Punjab Government has announced an extension of winter holidays in all schools across the state till January 7, 2026. As per the latest order, schools will now reopen on January 8, 2026.
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the decision was taken in view of severe winter conditions, persistent fog, and concerns over the health and safety of students and school staff.
The official order clarified that the extension of holidays will apply to all government, government-aided, recognised, and private schools throughout Punjab.
Earlier, the state government had declared winter vacations from December 24 to December 31, 2025, with schools scheduled to resume classes on January 1, 2026. However, considering the prevailing weather conditions, the government decided to further extend the break.
Education department officials said the situation will continue to be monitored, and any further decision will be communicated in advance if required.
