Punjab Election Commission making suitable arrangements for conducting Gram Panchayat polls

Punjab State Election Commission is in the process of making suitable logistical arrangements for conducting the General Elections to the Gram Panchayats in the State.

Disclosing this here today, Sh Raj Kamal Chaudhuri, Punjab State Election Commissioner, said that the electoral rolls for use in the Panchayat Elections is concerned, the final publication of voters lists with qualifying date of 1st January 2023 has been done by all the Deputy Commissioners on 7th January 2024.

He also said that the said voter list was duly updated up to 29th December 2023 after receiving claims and objections from the general public up to this date by the concerned Electoral Registration Officers in the Districts.

He further informed that to maintain the sanctity of the electoral rolls so as to ensure that all eligible voters who could not have their names entered in the electoral rolls, or who have subsequently become eligible to have their name included be given an opportunity to do so.

In this regard, State Election Commission has issued directions to all the Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers to further direct all the Electoral Registration Officers (SDMs) of their districts to take steps to update the electoral roll to be used in Panchayat elections by accepting applications in Forms I, II and III, for addition, deletion, and correction of votes respectively on every working day.

Sharing more details, he said that for this purpose a special campaign would be held on 20.08.2024 (Tuesday), 21.08.2024 (Wednesday) and 22.08.2024 (Thursday).

The general public falling under the revenue estates of concerned Gram Panchayats in the State of Punjab is hereby informed that they may use Form I to get their vote added, Form II for any objection/deletion and Form III for any correction in particulars of entry (including change of address or correction of address or other particular.

The said forms are available in the office of the Electoral Registration Officer (SDMs), or they may be downloaded from the Commission’s website sec.punjab.gov.in under “Panchayat Elections” Statutory Forms”.
