Punjab Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Home Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and half a dozen sitting Congress MLAs were Monday arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police.
The Deputy CM and other Congress MLAs were arrested while they tried to enter Uttar Pradesh from Haryana-UP Border.
Randhawa along with other MLAs was traveling to Lakhimpur Kheri in UP where four farmers were mowed down by a car allegedly driven by the son of a Union Minister.
The Punjab delegation led by Randhawa includes Punjab Congress Working President and MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra, Parminder Singh Pinky MLA, Barindermeet Singh Pahra MLA, Kuldip Singh Vaid MLA, Kulbir Singh Zira MLA, and Angad Saini MLA.
The delegation when stopped sat on a dharna on the road but the leaders were forcefully removed from the dharna place and taken to Shahjahanpur Police Station.
Randhawa, Nagra, and other leaders raised slogans against Narendra Modi Government and Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Government and termed it murder of democracy.
They said that they just wanted to head to Lakhimpur Kheri to visit and condole the deaths of victims of the Sunday incident and to take part in their cremation.
