Punjab bearing brunt of friendly match between Badals-Amarinder: Bhagwant Mann

Chandigarh, December 5, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president and MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said that Punjab was paying heavy a price for decades now due to the friendly match being played between the successive Congress and Akali Dal governments ruling the state for longer spans of time, pushing it into an abysmal mess. It said that to restore the lost glory of the agrarian state, a corruption-free government, a la the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi, was the need of the hour.

In a statement from party headquarters on Saturday Bhagwant Mann cornered Punjab chief minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, asking “You (Captain) are trying to mislead the people of Punjab citing court cases registered against you and your family. The people are aware of the fact that you and Badals have taken turns to grab power in Punjab by playing friendly matches for over decades shoving the state into an abysmal fiscal mess”.

Bhagwant Mann said that had a corruption-free government with good intentions taken reigns of the state, captain and Badals would have been behind the bars by now. The Sangrur MP questioned the CM what was the status of the alleged corruption case worth Rs 3,500 crore registered against them in 2002, asking why he Captain) had been maintaining a stoic silence when witnesses against Badals had turned hostile.

Mann said CM should come out in public domain and tell the people of Punjab why cases of corruption against them were not reopened after assuming power in 2017. He should also come clean on why no action was initiated against officials who turned hostile.

The AAP MP further said that the Captain government chose to sleep over the new and old cases registered against the Badals, including the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, and Behbal Kalan-Kotkapura firing incidents under the ‘dubious’ deal between him and the Badals, claiming that in return, they (Badals) had turned Nelson’s eye to the serious cases of corruption involving Amarinder Singh and his son Raninder Singh, including the multi-crore Intranet, Amritsar Improvement Trust, and Ludhiana City Centre scams.

Mann said that on the one hand the beleaguered farmers of Punjab were fighting against the three draconian laws on the Delhi borders amid bone-chilling nights, on the other hand the one-on-one Captain-Amit Shah meeting had ended up in a fiasco as nothing tangible came out of the narrative, saying it was a mere ploy to sabotage the Farmer movement.

Bhagwant Mann said that the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi and the Aam Aadmi Party were engaged, heart and soul, in the service of the farmers fighting for their livelihood, the Captain government, instead of coming to rescue of the farmers, was indulging in spreading a vilification campaign against Delhi CM.
