The Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Monday passed nine Bills covering education, infrastructure, taxation, employment, rural development and environmental protection, marking a significant legislative push by the state government across key sectors.
The Punjab Common Infrastructure (Regulation and Maintenance) Amendment Bill, 2026, moved by Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, was passed by majority.
The House unanimously approved the Punjab Regulation of Fee of Un-Aided Educational Institutions (Amendment) Bill, 2026, moved by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
Three Bills relating to universities were also passed by majority. These were the Cloud University, Hoshiarpur Bill, 2026; MS Digital University, Patiala Bill, 2026; and Physicswallah Digital University, Patiala Bill, 2026. All three were introduced by Bains.
The Punjab Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026, moved by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, was passed by majority.
The Punjab State Outsourced Personnel (Transition to Contractual Engagement) Bill, 2026, also moved by Cheema, received unanimous approval.
The House further passed by majority the Punjab Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2026, moved by Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond.
The Punjab Protection of Trees Bill, 2026, introduced by Forest and Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, was also passed by majority.
The nine Bills cover a broad range of policy areas, including regulation and maintenance of common infrastructure, private educational institutions, higher education, taxation, employment arrangements, Panchayati Raj institutions and environmental protection.
The legislative measures are aimed at strengthening the state’s regulatory and administrative framework while addressing issues related to education, infrastructure, employees, rural governance and environmental conservation.
