Private Hospitals in Ludhiana assure district administration to start COVID treatment in their premises

In view of the alarming rise in Covid-19 cases in district, the representatives of around 50 Ludhiana hospitals have assured the District Administration to start Covid 19 treatment in their premises within this week. When all these private hospitals start their Covid treatment, at least 200 ICU beds and 500 Non ICU (level 2) beds would be added to the existing strength.

Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Sharma, Commissioner of Police Mr Rakesh Kumar Agrawal, ADC (D) Mr Sandeep Kumar, DCP Mr Ashwani Kapoor and other senior officials today held a meeting of representatives of around 50 private hospitals at Police Lines, here.

At present, 7 private hospitals namely Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Christian Medical College & Hospital, SPS Hospital, Fortis Hospital, Deep Hospital, GTB Hospital and Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Hospital are providing Covid treatment along with the government hospitals.

Mr Varinder Sharma informed that some of the private hospitals have assured to start the Covid treatment from tomorrow itself, some would start within next 48 hours and hopefully, within this week, at least 200 ICU beds and 500 Non ICU (level 2) beds would be added to the existing strength. He also directed the private hospitals to reserve at least 50% of their total ICU beds for Covid treatment.

The Civil Surgeon Ludhiana has been asked to train the medical and other healthcare staff for Covid treatment in private hospitals, besides the doctors of these hospitals would be able to seek guidance regarding treatment from the state level expert committee specially formed for this purpose.

The Deputy Commissioner told the representatives of private hospitals that it is their moral and social responsibility to treat the patients during the ongoing Covid pandemic. He said that if any staff of these private hospitals refuses to treat Covid patients, then action under National Disaster Management Act would be taken against them.

Commissioner of Police Mr Rakesh Kumar Agrawal urged all private hospitals to come forward and assist the district administration in war against Covid 19. He also assured police security at their premises.

Mr Sandeep Kumar, ADC (Development)-cum-Nodal Officer COVID informed that once these 50 private hospitals start providing Covid treatment, their data would also be added in the newly developed mobile app so that people can check real time status of vacant beds in private hospitals of district Ludhiana.
