PPCB vans to make farmers aware of dangers of stubble burning during COVID times: SS Marwaha

Patiala, September 17,2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Prof SS Marwaha, Chairman PPCB today said that the harvesting of paddy crop is likely to commence shortly, as such, in order to make the farmers aware not to set the paddy straw ablaze, which not only causes air pollution but also affects the health of the soil, a van affixed with banners and provided with audio system has been put into service to ply in the villages of district Patiala.

He further informed that such vans have been sent to each district of the State for the said purpose by the Regional /Zonal Office of the PPCB, which will ply for two months in the villages.

Further, he informed that COVID-19 is a respiratory disease and the air pollution due to burning of paddy stubble may affect the air quality, which may aggravate the pandemic of COVID-19.

He appealed to the farming community to desist from burning paddy straw and help community in providing clean environment to fight COVID-19 pandemic as well as to make the mission Tandrust of Hon’ble Chief Minister of the State successful.
