Pollution causing Thermal Plants will not be allowed to play with people’s lives: Jakhar

Mansa /Chandigarh, Feb 9, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Pradesh Congress committee president Mr Sunil Jakhar today said he would ensure that the issue of thermal plant waste affecting human lives is resolved – an issue that he had raised voice against during the previous government regime.

He was in village Raipur of Sardulgarh today to listen to the problems of people affected due to ash emanating from the thermal plant. People told their problems due to thermal plant ash and the way it was affecting human health. People said that many of them were suffering from serious health problems.

Having listened to the problem of people, he said that the precious SAD – BJP government, in lieu of monetary gains, had sold off the health of Punjabis to thermal plants. He said that the pact Akali Dal signed with thermal plants is bleeding the state exchequer be siphoning large amount of money being given to them, whereas in the national market power was available at much cheaper rates.

He added that Sukhbir Badal had even compromised the Sarb Sanjhi gurbani by giving its sole transmitting rights to the party owned TV channel. He added that despite being born in family of farmers, Sukhbir Badal had signed such agreements that has compromised our future.

Mr Jakhar said that due to legal modalities signed by precious government, this thermal plant cannot be closed down. But now as per the orders of Central Pollution Control Board as the Supreme Court of India, it is mandatory for all thermal plants located within 300 kms area of Delhi to implement pollution control technology.

As per orders this was to be done by December 31,2019. But the Mansa based Banawali thermal plant has not installed this technology and hence it has become easier to legally interfere with the working of plant.

He said that these plants were bane for the state and he will convey the pain of people living around it to the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. He added that the people’s woes will be heard.

He added that the way Captain Amarinder Singh protected Punjab waters, be will protect the environment too and will also save the state funds that are being wasted away due to wrong agreements.

Former MLA Ajit Inder Mofar, Mangat Ram Bansal, chairman Zila parishad Bikram Mofar, former district president Bathinda Khushbaz Jattana, member planning board Prem Mittal and others were present.
