PAU student Heena Rani bags prestigious position at US Varsity

Ms Heena Rani, a recent doctorate from the Department of Biochemistry, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has brought laurels to her alma-mater by bagging the “Postdoctoral Research Associate Position” at the US Department of Agriculture, Cereal Crops Research Unit, Madison, Wisconsin, USA.

She will be working on metabolite profiling of barley seeds during different stages of malting using a combination of LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, and HPLC. Under the position, she will be receiving a $60,000 per annum salary apart from health, vision care, dental and life insurance.

In her Ph.D. programme, she worked on “Malt quality and thermostability studies in mutants, hulled, hull-less and wild genotypes of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)” under the guidance of Dr Rachana D Bhardwaj, Biochemist, Department of Biochemistry.

She has completed her Ph.D with 8.48 OCPA and bagged Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) Overseas Visiting Doctoral Fellowship at Purdue University, USA. During SERB-OVDF programme, she worked on “Shotgun proteomics approach to determine what proteomic changes are associated after kilning with improved in malting” under the supervision of Dr Daniel B Szymanski. She has also qualified ICAR-NET and GATE.

Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor; Dr (Mrs) Pardeep Kumar Chhuneja, Dean, Postgraduate Studies; Dr Shammi Kapoor, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities; and Dr Manjeet Kaur Sangha, Head, Department of Biochemistry, congratulated the student and wished her all success in future endeavors.
