PAU Professor Pardeep Kumar Chhuneja receives commendation from ICAR

Dr Pardeep Kumar Chhuneja, former Head, Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has received a commendation letter from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for his outstanding contributions to the discipline of Apiculture at the national level. The appreciation letter from Project Coordinator, ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Honey Bees and Pollinators, New Delhi, lauds outstanding and commendable services of Dr Chhuneja in Apicultural Research and Development at the national level. Dr Chhuneja has been instrumental in providing a great technical support to ICAR through his consistent guidance in finalizing the technical programme and efficient functioning of the ICAR-AICRP on Honey Bees and Pollinators, as well as his highly valued input in national level decision making concerning highly important aspects of Apiculture development. Besides, Dr Chhuneja has also contributed to the ICAR through his excellent services as member of the ICAR-QRT and also as Invited Expert at Annual Workshops of the AICRP as well as at other fora. In fact, Dr Chhuneja has contributed his whole professional career highly dedicatedly towards Apiculture development, the letter reads. Project Coordinator summarizes that the services of Dr Chhuneja to the ICAR and the nation in the field of Apiculture are hereby highly appreciably and greatly recognized. Dr Chhuneja has been leading the Apiculture Unit of the PAU for the last around 15 years and has been immensely contributing towards the development of apiculture in the State.

While counting on the contributions and achievements of Dr Chhuneja, Dr DK Sharma, Head of the Department, shared that Dr Chhuneja is also the Chairperson of FAD3 (Apiary Industry Sectional Committee) of Bureau of Indian Standards (MoCAF&PD). At international level, Dr Chhuneja has been India representative for ISO-TC-34; he is also the member of WG1, WG2, WG3 and WG4 of ISO on various aspects of hive products and has been the member of International Honey Commission. Besides, he is a member of the team recipient of Best AICRP Team Award and also the Overall Best ICAR-AICRP Centre on Honey Bees and Pollinators (2016 and 2022). He has been bestowed as Fellow of INSAIS and ESI; currently, he is the President of INSAIS as well as ESI (NZ). In addition, Dr Chhuneja has wide international exposure in his official capacity and visited UK, Switzerland, Ukraine, Kenya, Hungary, Slovenia and Pakistan countries. Dr Chhuneja was also Technical Consultant in Government Flagship Trilateral Cooperation Programme among India-Africa-USA for apicultural development in Kenya.

Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, while congratulating Dr Chhuneja for bringing laurels to the University, prompted him to continue to work for apiculture upliftment in the state and the country.

Dr AS Dhatt, the Director of Research; Dr MIS Gill, Dean, College of Agriculture and Dr DK Sharma, Head of the Department, also congratulated Dr Chhuneja for this appreciation from ICAR.
