The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been awarded the first prize in the “Green and Clean Campus” award contest notified last year by the National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. The prize carries a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh and a certificate. The award money and the certificate will be presented by the Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India during the forthcoming Vice-Chancellors conference. The information in this regard was conveyed to Mr Anirudh Tewari, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) and Vice-Chancellor, PAU, Ludhiana by Dr P Ramasundaram, National Coordinator, Institutional Development Plan, NAHEP.
Green and Clean Campus Award was instituted under the NAHEP, ICAR, New Delhi in 2020 to promote sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the campus. The green campus concept offers an institution an opportunity to take a lead in redefining its environmental culture and developing new paradigms by creating sustainable solutions to environmental, social and economic needs of the inhabitants.
NAHEP has been formulated by ICAR with a total cost of US$ 165 million for five years starting from 2017-18. A NAHEP funded project entitled “School of Natural Resources Management for Sustainable Agriculture” with a budget of Rs 1999.96 lakh is in progress at PAU since 2018. Dr (Mrs) GK Sangha, Former Dean, Postgraduate Studies-cum-Nodal Officer, NAHEP; Dr OP Choudhary, Head, Department of Soil Science and Principal Investigator, NAHEP-CAAST and Dr Dhanwinder Singh, Principal Soil Chemist-cum-Environment Safeguards Nodal Officer, NAHEP, were the key persons for this award. Dr Sandeep Singh, Senior Entomologist (Fruits) and Dr RK Dubey, Professor of Landscaping, gave critical inputs in preparing the document for the award.
Mr Anirudh Tewari congratulated the officers, faculty, staff and students of PAU for this great recognition and appreciated the efforts of the team.
