Partap Bajwa condemns Haryana Govt for using violence against farmers

Chandigarh, November 26, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)
Former PPCC president and Rajya Sabha Member Partap Singh Bajwa has condemned in the strongest terms the violence displayed by the Haryana Police against the farmers.

In a press release issued here today, Bajwa said, the farmers travelling from Punjab to Delhi were violently stopped by the Government of Haryana at various border crossings.

Bajwa said there has been no violence during the protests by farmers and farmer unions in Punjab in the last two months. Farmers who have a democratic right to dissent decided to carry out their constitutional rights by going to Delhi with the hope of having the Central Government to listen to their concerns.

“By attempting to stop Indians from using their constitutional rights on Constitution Day is a cruel joke. The Government of Haryana and the Government of India have acted in a manner that is against the spirit of democracy,” he said.

The Rajya Sabha member said, the farmers of Punjab have always done their duty to the nation and their recent protests have maintained the highest principles of dissent as envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi ji.

“Punjabis throughout history have always fought to protect their rights from illogical farmaans announced by the Delhi durbar. Attempting to use violence to hinder dissent will only increase tensions between the farming community and the Government of India. It is absolutely necessary to de-escalate the situation keeping in mind the national interest,” he said.

Bajwa has urged the Government of Haryana to let the farmers pass through their borders to Delhi. I also urge the Government of India to allow the farmers to protest peacefully in Delhi.

The farmers have for months been attempting to raise their concerns over the three Acts related to farming in India. Strong-arm tactics will only engender further division. We must not be using violence against those that feed the nation, but inviting them to our homes to listen to their concerns.
