Players Championship: Kshitij Naveed Kaul drives his way to top in Rd 1

Kshitij Naveed Kaul golfer

New Delhi, Feb 10, 2026

Kshitij Naveed Kaul drove his way to the top in round one of the INR 1.5 crore Players Championship 2026 being played at the Qutab Golf Course in New Delhi.

Kshitij posted a flawless eight-under 62 at the Par-70 course, one of his favourite venues, where he had also set the course record with a 10-under 60 last year.

Honey Baisoya’s 63 placed him second, while the quartet consisting of American Jhared Hack, winner of the season-opener last week, Kushal Singh, Dhruv Sheoran, and Akshay Sharma, were a further shot behind in tied third place. Former PGTI Order of Merit champion Veer Ahlawat began the week with a 65 to be tied seventh.

The 25-year-old Kshitij Naveed Kaul, a winner of five PGTI events, including one last season, drove the ball to perfection on Tuesday as he landed four of his drives close to the green. His round also featured a couple of immaculate bunker shots.

Kshitij, who had a fourth-place finish last week in Naya Raipur, collected three birdies on the back nine and added five more on the front nine, including four on the trot.

Kshitij, who hails from the Delhi Golf Club, said, “My driving and bunker shots were top-notch today. I came close to finding the green with my drives on a few occasions. My approach shots were also quite accurate. I really enjoy playing on this golf course. I had a great outing here last year as well. In this course, making chip-putts from close range is not easy, so hitting good wedge shots from a longer range is that much more important. That’s what I managed to do well today.”

Honey Baisoya, who was in contention at the season-opener last week, having led the field after round three, continued the good work at Qutab Golf Course with an error-free effort of seven-under 63. Honey picked up four birdies on the back nine and three on the front nine.

Jhared Hack and Kushal Singh produced magic with their wedges as the former landed it within five feet on four occasions while the latter started the day with three consecutive birdies, all tap-ins from two feet.(Agency)

Cong MPs misbehaved with Speaker Om Birla, abused him in chamber: Kiren Rijiju

Kiren Rijiju Union Minister

New Delhi, Feb 11, 2026

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday claimed that Congress MPs misbehaved with Speaker Om Birla in his chamber and abused him, calling it “unprecedented and never seen before” in parliamentary parlance.

The explosive ‘disclosures’ by the Union Minister are set to kick up a fresh row, and add more intensity to the already bitter confrontation between the government and the opposition.

Speaking to scribes ahead of Wednesday’s session, Kiren Rijiju said, “Congress parliamentarians, after visiting the Speaker’s chamber, threatened him, misbehaved with him and went to the extent of abusing him.”

Stating that he was appalled at such bizarre behaviour, he said that the opposition blatantly disobeys the Speaker’s instructions inside the House and then accuses him of being partisan towards them.

“I haven’t seen such a precedent before,” he added.

The Union Minister also lambasted the opposition for repeated breaches of Parliamentary conventions and advised them to follow laid down rules and norms, even when submitting a no-confidence motion against the Speaker.

“There is a clear process, and established norms are there for what should and shouldn’t be done in such cases. I don’t have much to say, but I am deeply saddened that the sanctity of the Speaker’s office has been undermined,” he stated.

Rijiju also took exception to Rahul Gandhi’s “theatrics” in the House and asked all the members to constantly uphold the dignity of Parliament.

He said that any member of the House — a Parliamentarian or Prime Minister — first takes permission from the Speaker and then duly obeys the Chair, but these Parliamentary norms are of no value to the Leader of Opposition.

“For Rahul Gandhi, seeking the Chair’s nod is not necessary; rather, he goes on to say that he doesn’t need anyone’s permission to speak in the House. He says this is my right to speak. Everything is on record,” he told the media.

The minister further urged the opposition to maintain the dignity and decorum of the House and asked everyone to abide by the rules to maintain the sanctity of Parliamentary proceedings.(Agency)

Telangana govt splits Greater Hyderabad into three municipal corporations

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad, Feb 11, 2026

The Telangana government has divided the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) into three separate corporations. It has created two new corporations, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri, while retaining six out of 12 zones under GHMC.

A Government Order (GO) was issued on Wednesday, constituting three municipal corporations — Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

The government also appointed Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary to the Government, Metropolitan Area and Urban Development Department, as Special Officer for the three corporations.

R.V.Karnan will continue as the Commissioner of GHMC. G. Srijana has been transferred and posted as Commissioner, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation.

T. Vinay Krishna Reddy, Additional Commissioner, GHMC, has been transferred and posted as Commissioner, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation.

According to the GO, the existing GHMC has been reorganised after careful examination/consideration of the administrative requirements arising out of the expansion of the city.

The move came a couple of months after the merger of the surrounding 27 urban local bodies with the GHMC to create the Core Urban Region (CURE). The government, in December last year, had approved the reorganisation of GHMC into 12 zones and 60 circles

Cyberabad Municipal Corporation will comprise the areas constituted by the Serilingampally, Kukatpally and Qutbullapur zones.

Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation will comprise the areas constituted by the Malkajgiri, Uppal and L.B. Nagar zones.

Areas under Shamshabad, Rajendernagar, Charminar, Golconda, Khairatabad and Secunderabad zones will come under GHMC.

The two new corporations will have a population of 35 lakh each, while GHMC will cover a population of 70 lakh.

The GO to split GHMC into three corporations was issued on the day when polling was underway for municipal elections in seven corporations and 116 municipalities in the state.

Elections for GHMC and two new corporations and a few other urban local bodies in the state are likely to be held in April-May.(Agency)

Declared dead by doctors, 14-year-girl comes back to life in West Bengal

Kolkata, Feb 11, 2026

A 14-year-old girl, who was reportedly declared dead by several doctors, was revived, thanks to efforts of an ICU ambulance technician.

The incident took place at Erafatpur in East Midnapore district.

After the miraculous incident, she was being treated at Contai Sub-district Hospital for last seven days. On Wednesday, she was discharged from the hospital, and subsequently the matter came to light.

It was learned that the girl from Erafatepur village consumed pesticide a week ago due to family unrest over her studies.

She was taken to a private nursing home in East Midnapore district’s Tamluk after visiting several hospitals. There, the doctors declared her dead. The family returned to Contai and confirmed her death from another doctor.

After returning home, the call to prayer was recited as per religious rituals and the news of the death was broadcast on the microphone.

The work of digging the grave was also completed. However, ICU ambulance technician Rabindranath Mandal noticed a faint pulse. At his insistence, the girl was taken to Contai Sub-district Hospital for the last time.

She was admitted to the ICU. Miraculously, she slowly responded. After seven days, the girl was discharged from the hospital after complete recovery.

Overjoyed to be back to life, the girl herself garlanded the technicians and doctors and paid tribute. The incident created a sensation in the area.

Hospital Superintendent Arup Ratan Karan told local media persons, “If we receive a written complaint, we will investigate the matter and take necessary action against the doctors who had declared her dead.”

He further said, “A little girl, 14 years of age, consumed pesticides. She was declared dead outside. Preparations for burial had also begun. But our hospital’s ambulance technician brought her to the hospital. We kept her in the ICU and started treatment. After seven days of treatment, she is returning home after recovering. This is a very proud day for us.”(Agency)

Rowdy sheeter murder case: Better for BJP MLA to surrender, says K’taka Minister

G Parameshwara Karnataka Home Minister

Bengaluru, Feb 11, 2026

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Wednesday said it would be better for BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj, an accused in the rowdy sheeter murder case, to surrender before the police.

The Karnataka High Court had cancelled his interim bail on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara, when asked why the police had not yet arrested Byrathi Basavaraj, said, “It is good for BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj to surrender before the police. The court passed its order on Tuesday. If he surrenders voluntarily, it is good; otherwise, the police will search for him.”

BJP MLA from Bengaluru’s KR Puram, Byrathi Basavaraj, who is an accused in the murder case of rowdy-sheeter Shivaprakash alias Biklu Shiva, is facing imminent arrest after the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday rejected his anticipatory bail plea.

It can be noted that a bench, headed by Justice Sunil Dutt Yadav, passed the order after vacating the interim protection from arrest granted earlier.

Following the court’s decision, CID sleuths launched a search operation to trace the MLA. CID sources said Basavaraj has gone absconding, and police officials stated that he could be arrested at any time.

Earlier, the court had granted Basavaraj interim immunity from arrest.

Amid suspicions that he may attempt to flee the country, a Look Out Circular (LOC) has been issued against the MLA. The CID has also coordinated with police forces in other states and formed special teams to monitor his movements and secure his arrest.

The murder of rowdy sheeter Biklu Shiva occurred on July 15 last year in the Halasuru area of Bengaluru.

Investigators have reportedly gathered key evidence against the MLA. CID sources said custodial interrogation of Basavaraj is necessary to further the probe and to uncover the larger conspiracy behind the murder.

Basavaraj has been booked on murder charges and named as the fifth accused in connection with the killing of Biklu Shiva, who was hacked to death in front of his residence. The Bharatinagar police in Bengaluru registered an FIR against the MLA based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.

The case later took a dramatic turn when the deceased’s mother claimed that she had never mentioned the name of the BJP MLA in her complaint and did not know how his name was included in the FIR. However, the police said they subsequently established Basavaraj’s alleged links with the prime accused in the case.

Initially, Basavaraj had direct links with rowdy Jagadeesh alias Jagga, the prime accused in the case, and had met Biklu Shiva several times before the killing.

Basavaraj was earlier an associate of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah before joining the BJP.(Agency)

Patna civil court receives sixth bomb threat; premises evacuated, security tightened

Bomb-Explosives

Patna, Feb 11, 2026

The Patna Civil Court received yet another bomb threat on Wednesday morning, triggering panic and leading to the evacuation of the entire court premises.

This marks the sixth bomb threat received by the court in recent times.

Confirming the incident, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Pirbahore Police Station said that information about the threat was received around 8 a.m., following which district police and security agencies immediately rushed to the spot and launched a comprehensive search operation.

“A bomb squad, dog squad, and bomb detection units are thoroughly searching the entire court premises. So far, no suspicious object has been found. The search operation is still underway,” the SHO said.

As a precautionary measure, the administration evacuated the court complex, sealed the main entrance, and restricted entry into the premises.

Security has been intensified not only inside the court but also in the surrounding areas, with strict screening of visitors.

The sudden evacuation caused panic inside the court complex, and resentment was also witnessed among lawyers whose work was disrupted.

Officials said the administration acted swiftly to avoid any risk, despite previous threats that later turned out to be hoaxes.

According to sources, a similar bomb threat was received two days ago, which was later confirmed to be fake.

However, officials said they are treating the latest threat with utmost seriousness and are leaving no room for negligence.

Authorities said normal court activities will resume only after the completion of the security checks and clearance from investigation agencies.

Notably, two cases related to Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav were listed for hearing in the Patna district court on Wednesday, coinciding with the day of the bomb threat.

A similar threat was received on Monday as well. Due to this, the hearing of the Pappu Yadav case was rescheduled on Tuesday.

Police and investigative agencies are continuing their probe to identify the source of the repeated threats.(Agency)

Delhi HC issues notice over PIL on missing persons in national capital

High Court Of Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 11, 2026

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice to Delhi Police on a public interest litigation (PIL) concerning cases of missing persons in the national capital.

During the brief hearing, the Delhi HC observed that two contrasting narratives are currently prevalent in the media regarding the issue of missing persons in Delhi, and said it would examine the factual position after receiving responses from the authorities.

Apart from the Delhi Police, it sought responses from the Union government, the city government, and the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in the matter.

Posting the PIL for further hearing on February 18, the Delhi High Court also inquired whether a similar matter is presently pending before the Supreme Court.

A day before, the plea was mentioned before Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya for urgent listing, seeking action in the alleged disappearance of nearly 800 people in the national capital during the first two weeks of January this year.

The development follows closely after the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took suo motu cognisance of the matter and issued notices to the Chief Secretary of the Delhi government as well as the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, directing them to submit a detailed report within two weeks.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have dismissed reports of a sudden increase in cases of missing children and warned rumour mongers of strict legal action for “spreading unnecessary fear by misrepresenting data”.

The police rejected claims of any spike in missing persons cases, stating that official data shows no abnormal rise and that figures have remained broadly stable for nearly a decade.

Police data further showed that annual missing-person figures have hovered between 23,000 and 24,000 since 2016, despite rapid population growth in the national capital.

Taking to the social media platform X on February 6, the Delhi Police said, “We appeal to citizens not to fall prey to rumours about a sudden increase in cases of missing children. While refuting such claims, we also warn rumour mongers of strict legal action for spreading unnecessary fear by misrepresenting data. The safety of every child is paramount for the Delhi Police. The Delhi Police is committed to providing 24×7 service and locating missing/abducted children and reuniting them with their families expeditiously.”(Agency)

Those opposing should step aside: Humayun Kabir as construction of Bengal’s Babri Masjid set to begin today

Humayun Kabir MLA

Murshidabad, Feb 11, 2026

Two months after the foundation stone for a replica of the Babri Masjid was laid in Murshidabad, construction of the mosque is set to begin in the West Bengal district from Wednesday. Janata Unnayan Party (JUP) President Humayun Kabir, who was instrumental in beginning the project that has courted controversy, said on Wednesday that those opposing the construction of the mosque should ‘step aside’.

Speaking to IANS, Kabir said, “To those who are opposing, I would say step aside. People are free to follow their own religions and build temples, churches, or whatever they wish. I will not oppose anyone in the name of Islam. My effort is for Islam, to please Allah and perform my devotion. It is not about imposing anything.”

“I am grateful to Allah for enabling the construction of the mosque. I also thank all those who supported this effort,” he added.

Kabir further said the work would begin peacefully despite resistance from some quarters.

“We are very happy. By the grace of Allah, the work is progressing well. Many people are trying to stop it, but with Allah’s help, the construction work of the mosque will begin safely today,” he said.

Referring to the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, Kabir said he had long wondered why the structure was brought down.

“Babri Masjid was demolished on December 6, 1992. I used to think why it was broken. So, this is a small contribution from my side as a Muslim. I want to thank lakhs of people who made this possible,” he added.

At the site, several supporters were seen participating in preparations for the construction.

One of the people carrying bricks on his head told IANS, “I have come here to help in the construction of the Babri Masjid by bringing bricks.”

Humayun Kabir, who laid the foundation stone of the structure on December 6 last year, has also shared the design of the mosque. On Monday, he posted the design on his social media account.

Kabir had formed his own Janata Unnayan Party after being suspended by the Trinamool Congress following his announcement to build a ‘Babri Masjid’ replica in Murshidabad.

The MLA, who has been openly critical of the Trinamool leadership, told reporters that his former party supremo, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, “will not become the Chief Minister and will not be sworn in”.

The development has also triggered reactions from political leaders outside the state. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared on Tuesday that the Babri structure would never be rebuilt.

On Tuesday, Yogi Adityanath said that ‘Qayamat (doomsday)’ will never come and therefore the Babri Masjid would never be rebuilt.

Kabir, meanwhile, announced that he will begin a ‘Babri Yatra’ on Thursday — a three-day march to the replica site — from Murshidabad’s Palashi to Dinajpur’s Itahar.(Agency)

Few in Vijayan govt ‘unnerved’ as Global Ayyappa Meet comes under SIT scanner

Pinarayi-Vijayan-Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 11, 2026

As the Kerala High Court appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the Sabarimala gold theft case, has widened its lens to include the controversial Global Ayyappa Meet held at Pampa last year, it has left a few in the Pinarayi Vijayan government gasping for breath.

In its submission linked to the Sabarimala gold misappropriation case, the SIT has made specific references to the Global Ayyappa Meet conducted during the tenure of P.S. Prasanth as Travancore Devaswom Board president.

Significantly, the report notes that there is no record in the minutes of the Devaswom Board meeting approving the decision to organise the event.

It also flags ambiguities in fund utilisation related to the meet.

Against this backdrop, an audit report detailing a financial loss of Rs 3.4 crore to the Devaswom Board from the event is slated to be placed before the High Court.

The court had earlier directed that not even a single rupee be sourced from either the government or the Devaswom Board for the conduct of the meet, with organisers indicating that expenses would be met entirely through sponsorship.

It was the Devaswom Minister V.N.Vasavan who had publicly estimated the cost at around Rs 8 crore, it remains unclear whether the full amount was mobilised through sponsorship, even though he categorically said no public funds would be taken.

The audit findings indicate that Rs 3.4 crore was drawn from the Board’s surplus funds, raising fresh legal and administrative questions.

The Devaswom Board has convened a meeting in the wake of the SIT’s observations.

In a parallel development, the Vigilance Department is set to formally request the return of files seized by the SIT from the Devaswom headquarters in connection with the Sabarimala flagstaff reconstruction case.

Key documents remain in SIT custody, and officials say detailed scrutiny is required before recording further statements.

Earlier findings had indicated procedural violations in the acceptance of gold for the flagstaff reconstruction, including failure to properly document donor details adding another layer to the expanding probe surrounding Sabarimala related financial management.(Agency)
