Over 90% of Criminals Have Fled Punjab Out of Fear of ‘War Against Drugs’: Laljit Bhullar

Chandigarh, March 29, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab leader and Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar shared details of police actions conducted under the Punjab Government’s anti-drug campaign ‘War Against Drugs’ from March 1 to March 28 with the media.

On Saturday, Laljit Bhullar addressed a press conference at the Chandigarh Party Office regarding this campaign. He stated that Punjab Police is carrying out this campaign very successfully across the state.

Under ‘War Against Drugs,’ 153 kg of heroin, over 87 kg of opium, and more than ₹5.83 crore in cash have been seized so far. Additionally, 2,483 FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) have been registered, and 4,280 drug traffickers have been arrested.

Apart from this, approximately 8.5 lakh pills, 2,014 kg of poppy husk, 46 kg of cannabis, 6.3 kg of charas, 498 illicit liquor bottles, around 9.5 kg of narcotic powder, and 514 injections have also been seized by the police. Furthermore, properties of 49 individuals involved in drug trafficking, which were illegally constructed using drug money, have been demolished.

Additionally, 22 motorcycles, 8 mobile phones, 4 cars, and 12 pistols related to drug trafficking have been confiscated. During the operations, more than 4 kg of gold, including one necklace and two chains, as well as 1.25 kg of silver, were also recovered. Furthermore, 5,689 traffic challans have been issued.

Bhullar said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the AAP government is fully committed to eradicating drugs from Punjab. Punjab Police is continuously taking action against drug traffickers, and no one involved in drug-related activities will be spared.

He added that after the launch of the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign, thousands of traffickers and criminals in Punjab have been arrested and sent to jail. Over 90% of the remaining criminals have fled the state to save their lives, while some are hiding in the homes of distant relatives.

Minister Laljit Bhullar appealed to the youth of Punjab not to fall into the trap of gangsters and criminals, warning that police action and court proceedings will ruin their lives. He stated that gangsters sitting abroad lure the youth of Punjab with money and then force them to commit illegal activities.

Cautioning the youth, Bhullar said that those who get shot in the leg during police encounters suffer irreversible damage to the affected area and remain disabled for life. He pleaded with the youth to refrain from engaging in any illegal activities.

The minister said that during the budget session of the Assembly, the Punjab Government passed a bill allowing the transfer of dangerous criminals and terrorists to other states and vice versa. He stated that the implementation of this law will instill even greater fear of the police among criminals and traffickers, effectively curbing crime.

In addition, ₹438 crore has been allocated in this year’s budget to curb drugs and crime. This includes ₹150 crore for drug surveys and ₹110 crore for the purchase of anti-drone systems to stop cross-border trafficking.

Successful testing of these drones has already been conducted in the border areas of Tarn Taran, and they will soon be officially deployed. Bhullar stated that these drones can monitor an area up to 10 kilometers and will shoot down any drones entering the border region.
