More than 85,000 children visited the Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park, popularly known as Chhatbir Zoo, between January and August 20 this year, reflecting growing interest among youngsters in wildlife and biodiversity.
The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has been undertaking initiatives to promote awareness about the state’s diverse wildlife and encourage children to learn about different animal species and their habitats.
Under the guidance of Forest and Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, Chhatbir Zoo has witnessed significant participation from children seeking to gain a better understanding of wildlife and nature.
According to the data, a total of 85,225 children visited the zoo from January 2026 to August 20, 2026. The highest monthly footfall was recorded in June, when 19,346 children visited the zoological park.
The growing number of young visitors highlights the role of zoological parks in providing children with opportunities to observe wildlife closely and develop greater awareness about conservation and biodiversity.
The Punjab Government has been emphasising wildlife awareness and conservation as part of efforts to foster a stronger connection between younger generations and the state’s natural heritage.
