In order to ensure complete protection of the Electronic Voting Machines stored in the strong room at the Office of the Director Land Records, 900 security personnel from State Police, Punjab Armed Police and Para Military Force have been deployed by the district administration for the security cover.
Divulging the details during a joint visit to all the counting centres/ strong rooms in the district for reviewing arrangements for counting on May 23, the Election Observers Mr. I Samuel Anand Kumar, Mr. Amit Kumar Ghosh, Mr. T Ragahvendra and Dr. Soujaya A, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that outer security cover to the counting centres/ strong rooms of each assembly segment was being provided by 450 employees of the Punjab Police. Likewise they said that the second layer of security around the counting centres/ strong rooms was being provided by one platoon of the Punjab Armed Police for each assembly segment. Similarly, they said that the inner security cover to strong rooms and counting centres was being provided by one platoon of the Para Military force deployed outside the strong rooms.
The officers further said that foolproof security arrangements have been made by the district administration at these centres to ensure that the counting for the Lok Sabha elections was held in a smooth and hassle free manner. They said that adequate number of CCTV cameras have been installed for e-surveillance of these centres round the clock. The officers said that adequate arrangements would be made for the entry of the counting staff, counting agents, media, representatives of the political parties and others.
Pertinently the strong room and counting centre for Jalandhar North has been set up at Government Sports School and for the Jalandhar west at Government Sports College. Likewise, the strong rooms for Jalandhar Cantonment, Jalandhar Central, Adampur, Shahkot and Kartarpur assembly constituencies has been constituted at office of the Director Land Records whereas that of Phillaur and Nakodar assembly segments has been set up at the State Patwar School.
