Notice to Gurdwara Ravidas – Amarinder should intervene immediately: Harpal Cheema

Chandigarh, August 26, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema, while reacting to the notice served on gurdwara Ravidas at Jamalpur here by the ministry of urban development through Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA), said chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh should immediately intervene in the matter and address the issue lest another sacrilegious act more akin to the one Delhi was not allowed to happen.

In a demi-official (DO) letter to the chief minister, Cheema has cautioned the state government to learn a lesson from what had followed demolition of the 5-century old Sri Guru Ravidas temple at Tuglaqabad in Delhi by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), which was under its direct control of the union government, triggering widespread protests from the community and countless followers of the mystic saint of the times.

Cheema said that the state government should immediately take preventive measures to ensure there was no threat to the law and order situation, peace and amity in the state.

The AAP leader accused both the union government at the centre and the Captain-led government in the state spreading hatred among the communities. Referring to the fallout of demolition of the historic temple in Delhi that happened under the nose of the union government had taken the community and the country by storm.

Now, the service of the notice on gurdwara Sri Guru Ravidas, reflected the evil designs and anti-Dalit face of the both state and the central government.

Cheema further added that Captain’s such dubious diatribes on such serious and sensitive issues had left nothing to speculation that the Amarinder Singh government was being run by Modi’s national security adviser, Ajit Doval, saying that his (Captain’s) conflicting statements on the Kartarpur Corridor had embolden the saffron leaders to make unwarranted statements, citing Subramaniam Swami’s latest utterings over the Kartarpur Corridor that had led to raging reactions from one and all.

The LoP said that BJP was playing divisive politics polarizing the people in the country on the basis of caste, colour, race and religion and said Captain should not get trapped by this philosophy of the saffron party, for the people of the state had had enough of it during the past more than 50 years, thus derailing the state from the path of progress and prosperity.

Cheema has demanded that Captain Amarinder Singh should immediately intervene in the matter and come out with a lasting solution to the issue of faith of the people that had arisen out of the service of the notice on the historic shrine of the guru thereby dispelling the fears of the teeming millions of followers of the great guru and reinstate their lost faith in the government’s fair play in protecting the places of worship across the state.
