Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, while leading a ‘Jan Yatra against drugs’ here today, said that there is no place for drugs in the sacred land of heroes.
He said that the support of society is also a must in the campaign launched by the Punjab Government to eradicate drugs from the land of Gurus, Prophets and the brave and heroic people who gave a befitting reply to attacks of external enemies.
While launching a foot march against drugs from Shri Ram Bhawan in Kharar today, he said that the land of Punjab is a symbol of protection and pride in religion and culture. This is the land where sacrifices have been given against oppression.
Recalling the message given by Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s younger sons Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, who were martyred by being carved into a wall in Sirhind for the protection of religion, against the extremes of oppression at the age of 9 and 7 respectively, he said that even today, when we visit that place, our eyes get moist.
He said that we should firmly oppose the conspiracy of external forces to physically weaken the brave Punjabis born on such a great land and should support the government in its’ fight to uproot drugs from the land of Punjab.
Reminding the Punjabis of their great heritage, he said that along with protecting the borders, when America withdrew its hand for food grains, Punjab itself had filled the food grains reserves. Therefore, when Punjab is facing the challenge of drugs, we should once again stand up for its eradication as a mass movement.
He said that the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign launched by the Punjab government for the past one month is yielding tangible results and now there is an opportunity for every conscious citizen of Punjab to support the Government in this fight and make the land of Punjab drug-free.
He said that when any work is done in a social way, success is sure to come. He said that under the efforts being made by the Punjab government at its own level, the highest punishment under the NDPS Act has also been prescribed in Punjab itself.
In this foot march against drugs, a large number of students also participated, apart from various religious and social institutions of the city.
Later, in the felicitation ceremony organized by the Shri Ram Mandir Ajj Sarovar Vikas Samiti at Shri Ram Bhawan, in honor of Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria; Lalit Kumar, Director Census, Punjab and Haryana, Sashi Pal Jain,
President Vikas Samiti, Malvinder Singh Kang, Member Lok Sabha Sri Anandpur Sahib, Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, Former MP, Vineet Joshi, BJP leader, Jagmohan Singh Kang, Former Minister and Jaspreet Kaur Longia, President Municipal Council Kharar, expressed their views and told about his personality and long political and social journey.
During the felicitation ceremony, the Governor of Punjab Shri Kataria thanked the Shri Ram Mandir Aaj Sarovar Vikas Samiti for giving him the opportunity to visit this historical sarovar associated with Lord Ram’s grandfather Maharaja Ajj.
He appreciated the efforts of the Mandir Committee to connect people with this holy place and appealed to co-operate Punjab Government in the war against drugs in the form of social consciousness.
On this occasion, the dignitaries of the city Sudarshan Verma, Tara Chand Gupta, Aman Kansal, Amrit Lal Jain, Jaspreet Kaur Longia, Davinder Gupta, Jaspal Dhiman, Ashok Sharma, M S Sandhu, Kulwant Chaudhary, Jatinder Arora, Anand Bansal,
Nitin Garg, Praveen Sharma, Jatinder Gupta and Kamaljit Tiwana besides PAU Ludhiana VC Satbir Singh Gosal and former VC of Guru Nanak Dev University and Higher Education Advisor to the Governor Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu were also specially honored.
