New Scholarship Scheme: CM Amarinder’s anti-dalit face stands exposed: AAP

Chandigarh, October 7, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has termed Chief Minister Amarinder Singh as liar number 1 when it came to fulfilling the poll promises made to the people of Punjab, saying his (Chief Minister’s) anti-dalit face has come to the fore with his floating another Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for them, by indulging in a cheap gimmickry to ruin the future of lakhs of poor students belonging to the community in Punjab.

In a statement issued from party headquarters in Chandigarh on Wednesday, Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, Party MLAs Aman Arora and Principal Budhram said that CM Amarinder Singh was trying to pretend as a staunch defender of the rights of the Dalits, saying that he (CM Amarinder Singh) had perhaps forgotten that he had given ‘clean chit’ to tainted Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, allegedly involved in the multi-crore post basic scholarship scam, landing teeming millions of the Dalit students into an abysmal mess.

LoP Harpal Singh Cheema on the occasion said that Raja Amarinder was trying to mislead the Dalit students by stating that the Union Government had discontinued the scholarship scheme meant for them, while reality on the ground was that the Union Government had paid off the post-matric scholarships funds to the Punjab government, accusing the scam-riddled Congress Punjab government had squandered the amount for its own petty ends. He said that the Dalit students had been suffering ever since the Congress government took reins of the state.

Cheema lamented that during the Congress rule spanning over four years now, the number of Dalit students enrolled in various colleges had drastically come down to 1.50 lakh, while earlier some 3.3 lakh Dalit students had enrolled themselves for higher education in top-rung institutions in the state, which stood at 1.80 lakh now, which was quite worrying, he said.

Aman Arora said that the power-hungry CM Amarinder Singh had made three prominent promises to the Dalits in the party’s election manifesto in 2017, adding that none of them had been fulfilled by far.

He had promised pension for Rs. 2500 to senior citizens belonging to the Dalit community, besides Rs 51,000 to marriageable dalit girls under the Shagun scheme and allotment of a five-marla plot each to every dalit household, which remained unfulfilled. A number of other promises he peddled around among the people had yet to see light of the day.

Taking a swipe at CM Amarinder Singh, principal Budhram said that he (CM Amarinder Singh) had been playing dirty politics at the mere thought of the 2022 elections, saying he made a bizarre statement yesterday, announcing that his government would provide 1 lakh jobs to the youth in Punjab in the one and half years of the remaining tenure.

He hit out at him saying the announcement made no sense, saying “You have snatched away jobs in various departments, including Water Resources Department, PSPCL and Agriculture Departments, rendering a large number of employees jobless. You have, instead of giving ghar-ghar naukri, you have created a situation of unemployment in the state”.
