MRSPTU commemorates Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s 244th Birth Anniversary

Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, marked the 244th birth anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh on Wednesday with a special event filled with respect and enthusiasm to honor the legacy of the legendary Sikh ruler.

The Vice Chancellor of MRSPTU, Prof. Sandeep Kansal, expressed pride in commemorating Maharaja Ranjit Singh, celebrated as the “Sher-E-Punjab” (Lion of Punjab). Prof. Kansal remarked, “Our university, named after this visionary leader, draws lasting inspiration from his legacy of courage, leadership, literacy, and resilience.”

University Registrar Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar led the faculty and staff in a floral tribute to the revered Sikh emperor. During his address, Dr. Brar offered a reflection on Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s ideals and contributions, providing a historical overview of his leadership as the head of the Sikh Empire, which ruled the Northwestern Indian subcontinent in the early 19th century.

Born in Gujranwala (now in Pakistan) on November 13, 1780, and passing away on June 27, 1839, in Lahore, Maharaja Ranjit Singh is remembered not only as a courageous warrior but also as a unifying leader who promoted education, social reforms, and nation-building.

Dr. Brar highlighted his significant role in Indian history as a progressive and visionary ruler.

The gathering included senior faculty members, deans, and directors of the university, who all joined in paying their respects to Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
