Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, MPRS from Punjab, raised issue regarding insufficient international passenger and cargo flights to and from Amritsar and Mohali.
Civil Aviation Minister replied that currently Amritsar Airport has international fights to/from Birmingham, Bangkok, Doha, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, London (Gatwick), Milan, Sharjah, and Singapore While Chandigarh has international services to/from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Sahney reiterated that over 40% of the traffic at IGI Airport delhi is from Punjab and as such there an urgent need of allowing and granting point of call to reputed foreign carriers to Amritsar and Mohali as currently it is governed by Bilateral Air Services Agreement (ASA)
Dr. Sahney expressed his deep concern on reply by the minister that there is no plan to start Cargo flights from Punjab as Mr. Sahney said considerable exports specially of horticulture products have a great potential for exports.
