Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Member of Parliament from Amritsar, has sought immediate intervention from Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu for the safe return of a large number of Indian nationals, particularly Punjabis, stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a letter addressed to the Minister, MP Aujla highlighted the grave situation of passengers stranded in Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi, urging the commencement of special direct relief flights to Amritsar.
MP Aujla mentioned in the letter that he has received numerous representations from affected families pleading for the safety and return of their loved ones.
Those stranded include elderly citizens, women, young children, tourists, and transit passengers returning from Western nations who are unable to reach their homes due to the prevailing uncertainty.
These individuals are not only facing financial hardships and health-related concerns but are also under immense mental distress due to this uncertainty.
Suggestion for Direct Flights by Air India and IndiGo
The MP suggested that Indian carriers such as Air India, Air India Express, and IndiGo should be directed to operate direct flights to Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar.
He stated that just as UAE-based airlines like Etihad, Emirates, and Flydubai are making special arrangements, similar initiatives should be undertaken by Indian carriers.
MP Aujla emphasized that Amritsar serves as a vital international gateway for Punjab and surrounding regions.
He urged the Ministry to coordinate with UAE aviation authorities to operationalize these flights at the earliest to resolve this serious matter of public importance.
