Punjab Defence Services Welfare, Freedom Fighters and Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat on Monday chaired a special meeting with senior officers to review the status of compensation to the families of soldiers martyred in the 1962, 1965 and 1971 wars who are yet to receive the benefit.
During the meeting, officers briefed the Minister that the Punjab Government has already provided compensation to most of the families of soldiers martyred in these wars in the form of land or financial assistance. They also apprised him of the remaining cases and their present status.
Mr.Bhagat directed the officers to dispose of all pending cases relating to ex-servicemen and families of martyred soldiers on priority so that eligible beneficiaries receive compensation at the earliest.
The Minister said the Punjab Government holds the highest respect for the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in defence of the nation. He added that the state government is fully committed to the welfare of ex-servicemen and families of martyrs and is making continuous efforts to extend all possible assistance to them.
Among those present at the meeting were Joint Secretary, Defence Services Welfare Department, Amrinder Singh Tiwana, Director, Defence Services Welfare, Bhupinder Singh Dhillon (Retd.); Commander Baljinder Virk (Retd.); Under Secretary, Revenue Department, Parvinderkor Pal; and Joint L.R., L R Department, Udepal Singh Hundal, besides other officers.
