Modi Govt should immediately release Sikh prisoners who have completed their sentences: Punjab Minister Dhaliwal

Amritsar/Ajnala, October 21, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Today, former Punjab Cabinet Minister and MLA from Ajnala constituency, S. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, paid obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib on the auspicious occasion of Diwali and the historic Bandi Chhor Divas.

He extended greetings to the people of Punjab and the entire nation on these festivals. He also prayed for the well-being and prosperity of flood-affected people — not only from his constituency of Ajnala, which suffered severe devastation, but also from other parts of Punjab that were hit by floods.

During the prayer, S. Dhaliwal humbly requested the Almighty to bless the flood victims with strength to stand again on their feet — socially and economically — so that they, too, can celebrate Bandi Chhor Divas and Diwali with joy and enthusiasm like the prosperous people in other parts of Punjab and India. Later, S. Dhaliwal also paid his respects at Sri Akal Takht Sahib and listened devotedly to the spirited kavishri (poetic recitations in heroic spirit).

While interacting with the media, he said that the Central Government has failed to fulfill its promise of releasing Sikh prisoners who have already completed their sentences. By not implementing the notification issued in this regard, the government has clearly demonstrated its betrayal. He urged the Central Government to uphold its commitment and implement the notification for the release of these Sikh prisoners with honesty.

Earlier, yesterday, Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convener and former Chief Minister of Delhi, Shri Arvind Kejriwal, honored MLA and former minister S. Dhaliwal for his humanitarian efforts during the floods in his constituency — where, through active coordination with civil and police administration, nearly 3,200 lives were saved. Despite the risks posed by floodwaters and snakes, S. Dhaliwal personally worked among the victims and supported them selflessly.

When S. Dhaliwal visited Delhi to extend Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas greetings, Shri Kejriwal warmly shook hands with him and gave him an encouraging pat on the back, appreciating his people-oriented role and inspiring him to continue serving under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Later, while speaking to select journalists, S. Dhaliwal expressed heartfelt gratitude to Shri Kejriwal for the motivational gesture and said that the emotional encouragement from him had strengthened his resolve to continue his dedicated public service and work tirelessly for the strengthening of the party.
