MLA Kulwant Singh Launches Rs 728-Cr Power Outage Reduction Plan in Mohali

As part of Rs 5000 Crore key state-level reform to strengthen the power supply infrastructure and minimize power interruptions across Punjab inaugurated by Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, MLA S. Kulwant Singh today launched the Rs 728 crore Power Outage Reduction Plan for District SAS Nagar (Mohali).

The event was held at the 66 KV Grid Sub-Station, IT City, Mohali, where an additional 31.5 MVA Power Transformer was also inaugurated, commissioned under the project.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Rs 728 crore investment in Mohali marks a major leap in power infrastructure development, ensuring uninterrupted power supply, improved voltage stability, and better service delivery to domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers.

He informed that the district-level works include feeder deloading projects worth Rs 172.2 crore, installation of new distribution transformers costing Rs 35.5 crore, augmentation of existing distribution transformers at Rs 32.6 crore, establishment of new 66 KV and 220 KV substations worth Rs 354.2 crore, augmentation and addition of power transformers costing Rs 62.9 crore, and 66 KV line strengthening works of Rs 70.6 crore.

Under this initiative, several new 11 KV feeders—including Jubilee Clio, STPI, TDI-2, Civil Hospital, Parsvnath, University, Punjab Officers Society, CPM, Aerovista, COSMO, Ambala Road, Vasant Vihar, Bauli Sahib, GBM, Green Valley, Sector 105, Sector 108, Sector 109, Block E & G Aerocity, and Marbella—have been commissioned.

These have helped deload existing feeders, resulting in significant improvement in supply quality. Additionally, several new projects and residential colonies have been connected to the power network.

As part of the district’s infrastructure expansion, 14 new grid sub-stations are being established, including 66 KV Sector 62, 66 KV Sector 110, 66 KV Sector 119, 66 KV Sector 82, 66 KV Aerocity-2, 66 KV Medicity, 220 KV Sector 101, 66 KV Sector 101, 220 KV Mubarikpur, 66 KV Eco City-1, 66 KV Sector 123, 66 KV Bhagwanpur, 66 KV Focal Point Mubarikpur, and 66 KV Bansepur.

These upcoming grids will further strengthen the transmission and distribution network in SAS Nagar, ensuring enhanced reliability, reduced outages, and stable voltage supply across both urban and peripheral areas.

MLA Kulwant Singh also joined the live streaming of the State-Level Programme from Jalandhar, presided over by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP National Convener Sh. Arvind Kejriwal, marking the official statewide launch of the Power Outage Reduction Plan.

He expressed confidence that the completion of these extensive works will lead to a major upgradation of Mohali’s electricity distribution network, ensuring reliable, efficient, and high-quality power supply for all categories of consumers.

Superintending Engineer, Mohali Circle, Sh. H.S. Oberoi informed that Mohali has been designated as the headquarters of the newly carved East Zone of PSPCL, with a Chief Engineer posted to oversee operations from Nangal to Lalru Division, ensuring better monitoring and timely execution of works.

Executive Engineer, IT City, Sh. Shaminder Singh; Executive Engineer, Mohali, Sh. Taranjit Singh; and local leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party were also present on the occasion.
