Keeping up with the trend it has set since 2012, a website named TheSikh100.com has issued a list of 100 ‘most powerful, influential and contemporary Sikhs’ of the year 2019.
The 2019 list includes personalities from the field of Religion, Politics and some committed Social Workers. The list also names artists besides some Rich Sikhs and others from the Corporate World. Sikhs on high positions in the foreign lands have also been included.
Interestingly while Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh and Takht Patna Saheb Jathedar Giani Kulwant Singh have been figured, the other three Jathedars of Takht Sahiban do not find a place in the list.
SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal and DSGMC chief Manjinder Singh Sirsa have also been included. A former DSGMC chief Manjit Singhj GK also finds a mention in the list. Some Sikh saints, Karsewa wale Babas, a Nihang Chief and religious personalities from abroad have also been included.
The list has Khalsa Aid’s Ravi Singh, Pingalwara chief Dr. Inderjit Kaur and Sarbat Da Bhala president Dr. SPS Oberoi among others.
Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri figure in the Top 100. The Punjab politicians include Capt Amarinder Singh, his MP wife Preneet Kaur , Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal and former Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Personalities from foreign lands include S. Harjit Singh Sajjan, S. Jagmeet Singh, Smt Bardish Kaur Chaggar, S. Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, S. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, S. Upjeet Singh Sachdeva, Anarkali Kaur Honrayar, Satwant Singh and Ramesh Singh Arora.
While Milkha Singh represents the field of Sports in the list, the only artists figuring seem to be Diljit Dosanjh and Guru Randhawa.
