A high level delegation of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) led by its President Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa today met External Affairs Ministry and took up issue of constitution of Project Management Unit (PMU) by the Pakistan Government for control and maintenance of Historic Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur Sahib.
Talking to media after the meeting, Mr. Sirsa disclosed that we have apprised the Ministry on how the Pakistan Government has constituted a PMU under Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) for control and maintenance of the historic Gurudwara Sahib. He said that it is shocking to see that Pakistan Government has handed over control to a non Sikh body which has no knowledge about Sikh rehat maryada.
Mr. Sirsa said that they have told JP Singh Joint Secretary of the Ministry and Incharge of Pakistan desk that a feeling of scare is being created in minorities with repeated acts of oppression, suppression and persecution.
He said that latest one is one of the most shocking development which is decision of the Pakistan Government.
He said that first four Sikh members Mohinderpal Singh, Gopal Chawla and two others were ousted from ETPB and now non Sikh have been included in PMU and the Pakistan Government is declaring Gurudwaras as Business model, which it totally wrong and ill logical. He said that Gurdwaras were never and never are business models.
The DSGMC President said that latest decision means from now onwards, all the Gurdwara affairs will be looked after by the proposed PMU which is a non-Sikh Body. He said that we strongly condemn this decision of Pakistan Government because it is a direct interference in Gurdwara affairs which is a highly sensitive matter for us.
He said that Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib is a historical Gurdwara where Guru Nanak Dev Ji breathed his last and sentiments of Sikh Sangat worldwide are closely attached with this Gurdwara Sahib.
Mr. Sirsa further said that Gurdwara affairs are run according to Sikh Rehat Maryada. There is no Sikh representative in the proposed Project Management Unit in which Additional Secretary Tariq Khan has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer and 08 other members have been nominated all of them are non Sikh and none of them have any knowledge about Sikh Rehat Maryada and Sikhism.
He urged the Ministry that considering the sentiments of Sikh community, it is requested that this issue may be taken up immediately with Pakistan Government about stopping the unwanted interference in Gurdwara affairs and restoring the charge of Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib to Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee.
Mr. Harmeet Singh Kalka General Secretary of the DSGMC and other senior leaders were also present in the meeting.
