Ludhiana to have best sporting facilities soon: Bharat Bhushan Ashu

Punjab School Education and PWD Minister Mr Vijay Inder Singla today said that the Punjab government is committed for providing best sports facilities to the school students.

He said that several initiatives under Mission Tandrust Punjab of the state government have been started, under which the youth, especially school students, are being motivated to make sports as a part of their daily routine.

He said this during his address after inaugurating 65th National School Games at Guru Nanak Stadium, here today. He was also accompanied by Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu.

The 65th National School Games of Netball U-19 boys and girls, Kickboxing U-14 & U-19 boys and girls, Wushu U-19 boys and girls, Sepak Takraw U-14 boys & girls have been inaugurated in the city today.

Thousands of students from a total of 25 states namely Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, CBSE Welfare Sports Organisation, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, IPSC, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Vidya Bharathi and West Bengal would be competing against each other. These games would end on December 24, 2019.

Mr Vijay Inder Singla said that its a matter of great pride that National School Games are being organised in Punjab. He said that every person, especially youth, should make sports a part of their daily routine as they teach team spirt, unity and discipline in life. He also announced that more such events would be organised in the state in the coming days as well.

Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu said that several efforts are being made to ensure that Ludhiana has the best sporting facilities for its residents. He informed that a new sports park is being developed at the site which had a dump once in Jainpur village of district Ludhiana with cost of Rs 40 crore.

He also informed that a new athletics synthetic track would be laid at Guru Nanak Stadium, while work on indoor swimming pool would also start shortly. He said that the indoor swimming pool at Rakh Bagh has been a long pending demand of the city residents, and the work on it would commence shortly.

He informed that all the sports facilities in the city, including the Shastri Hall, Basketball stadium, Table Tennis stadium, besides all others, would be upgraded with best sports facilities.

He also urged the youth to avail full benefit of all the sports facilities in the district.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included MLAs Mr Surinder Dawar, Mr Sanjay Talwar and Mr Lakhbir Singh Lakha, Senior Congress leader Capt Sandeep Singh Sandhu, former Minister Mr Malkit Singh Dakha, Chairman Mr KK Bawa, Ludhiana Improvement Trust Chairman Mr Raman Balasubramaniam, Punjab Youth Development Board Chairman Mr Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, Zila Parishad Ludhiana Chairman Mr Yadwinder Singh Jandiali, Mr Teja Singh Dhaliwal, District Congress Committee (Urban) President Mr Ashwani Sharma, ADC (General) Mr Iqbal Singh Sandhu, ADC (Khanna) Mr Jaspal Singh, SDM (West) Mr Amrinder Singh Malhi, DPI (Elementary) Mr Inderjit Singh, DEO (Secondary) Mrs Swaranjit Kaur, DEO (Elementary) Mrs Rajinder Kaur, Mr Rupinder Singh, besides several others. A cultural function was also organised on the occasion.
