LPU student Jahnavi Dangeti receives Rs.50-lakh from Andhra CM to get trained as Astronaut

BTech ECE (Hons.) 3rd year student Jahnavi Dangeti of the School of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (SEEE) at Lovely Professional University (LPU) is on the verge of becoming an astronaut. Very passionate about her space journey as an acclaimed astronaut, LPU student had also joined and completed NASA’s educational International Air and Space Program (IASP) successfully. She is the first Indian student to join IASP.

Hailing from Palacole in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, Jahnavi joined LPU engineering programme to realize her dream of becoming an astronaut. Following her passion, she got a coveted chance at LPU to represent India in IASP at NASA’s Launch Operations’ Kennedy Space Centre.

Pulsing LPU student’s potential to become an astronaut, and considering relevant appeal by her for further training; Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy sanctioned Rs. 50 Lakh to realise her dream of becoming an astronaut. In this regard, Minister for Information and Public Relations, Ch Srinivasa Venugopalakrishna handed over the related cheque to Jahnavi at Velagapudi Secretariat.

Congratulating the hardworking student, LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal further encouraged her to be surely on the footsteps of India’s globally reputed women astronauts- Kalpana Chawla, Sunita Williams. Illustrative, IASP selects only a handful of 20 young people from all over the world for this prestigious program. Now, she will undergo international pilot training to become an astronaut.

Jahnavi shares that she has already undergone analogue astronaut training in NASA and Poland. She has completed the entire astronaut programme which involved activities like zero gravity, multi-access training, underwater rocket launch and, even operating an aircraft. She also shares that she could crack the IASP interview and move to the USA only under the guidance of her teachers and mentors at LPU. There, her learning at LPU led her to lead a group of 16 people from several countries.

Jahnavi is also an active member of LPU’s student organization ‘Robotics and Intelligent System Community (RISC), which encourages its members to perform beyond their capabilities, and set new goals.
