Legendary Musician Tito Jackson, Brother of Michael Jackson, Dies at 70

Mexico, September 16, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

Tito Jackson, an iconic member of The Jackson 5 and brother to Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, passed away at the age of 70. His nephew, Siggy Jackson has confirmed his death.

Tito’s sudden death occurred on September 15, 2024, following what is believed to have been a heart attack.

Tito’s Final Performances with The Jacksons

Leading up to his tragic passing, Tito had been performing with his brothers Jackie Jackson and Marlon Jackson as part of their ongoing tour as The Jacksons. Over the summer of 2024, the legendary group had shows in Scotland, California, and England, continuing to thrill audiences with their timeless hits. Their most recent performance took place on September 8 in Surrey, England. The group had future appearances scheduled in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Cincinnati, Ohio, set for later this fall.

Just days before his passing, while in Munich, Germany, Tito took to Facebook to reflect on a visit to a memorial for his brother Michael Jackson, writing, “We’re deeply grateful for this special place that honors not only his memory but also our shared legacy. Thank you for keeping his spirit alive.”

A Founding Member of The Jackson 5

Tito Jackson was an original member of The Jackson 5, the legendary family band that skyrocketed to fame in the 1970s. Along with his brothers Michael, Jackie, Jermaine, and Marlon (and later Randy Jackson), Tito helped bring hits like “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” and “I’ll Be There” to the world stage.

In recognition of their immense impact on the music industry, The Jackson 5 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Additionally, the group was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, solidifying their status as music icons.

Tito’s Solo Career and Love for the Blues

After his time with The Jackson 5, Tito pursued a solo career, releasing two studio albums: Tito Time in 2016 and Under Your Spell in 2021. He also began performing and touring with blues and funk music, a genre he loved deeply.

In a 2021 interview with Blues Blast magazine, Tito explained, “It was the blues that got me interested in the guitar.” He discussed how, after decades of performing Jackson 5 hits, he felt the desire to return to his musical roots. He shared, “I just wanted to jam, but I couldn’t get no pros to do that kinda thing.”

Tito’s passion for blues led him to tour with the BB King Blues Band in 2017, 2018, and 2019, further establishing his versatility as a musician.

Tito’s Message of Love and Unity

One of Tito’s final musical contributions was his 2021 single, “Love One Another,” which was recorded during the pandemic. The song carried a powerful message of love, unity, and peace. In the song’s description on YouTube, Tito shared that the track was intended to be a call for people to come together during difficult times.

Tito expressed, “Through my music, I’m dedicated to spreading a positive message of harmony and togetherness.” The music video for “Love One Another” featured members of the Jackson family, as well as celebrities like Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian. Tito’s three sons—Taj, TJ, and Taryll—also made appearances in the video.

Tito’s Lasting Legacy

Tito’s musical legacy extended through his family. His sons, known as 3T, comprised a band that he managed, and they were featured in the 2015 reality series The Jacksons: Next Generation. Tito’s influence as both a father and a musician was apparent in how his children carried forward the Jackson legacy.

Even as he entered his 70s, Tito had no plans to slow down. In an August interview with Fox 5 San Diego, Tito shared his continued passion for performing with his brothers, saying, “We love it, I still love the traveling, this type of thing, it’s great.”

Family Tragedies and Personal Losses

Tito Jackson’s death marks another tragic chapter for the Jackson family. He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Dee-Dee Martes-Jackson, who passed away in 1994, as well as his father, Joe Jackson, who died in 2018. Of course, the family’s most public loss was the death of Michael Jackson in 2009. Despite these profound losses, the Jackson family has remained a significant part of music history, continuing to inspire fans across the world.

A Life Dedicated to Music and Family

Tito Jackson will be remembered not only for his contribution to music as part of The Jackson 5 but also for his passion for blues, his solo career, and his efforts to spread love and unity through his music. As his family, friends, and fans mourn his loss, Tito’s legacy will live on through the countless hits, performances, and personal connections he made during his extraordinary life.
