‘Kullhad Pizza’ Couple: Punjab and Haryana HC Orders Security Amid Threat from Nihangs

Chandigarh, October 19, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has come to the aid of the Jalandhar-based ‘Kullhad Pizza’ couple, ordering the government to provide them with adequate and appropriate security following threats from some Nihangs. The Nihangs had objected to certain reels and videos produced by the couple, deeming them inappropriate.

The matter would now come up on 13th of November, 2024.

The couple – Sehaj Arora and Gurpreet – known for selling ‘Kullhad Pizza’ and other food items, gained popularity through social media, promoting their business by creating and sharing reels and videos. However, they found themselves at the center of controversy after an alleged obscene video (mms) was leaked, which led to significant online trolling.

Despite the backlash, the couple moved forward, continuing to create content, including dance videos, shot at various locations both in India and abroad.

The New Controversy and Nihang Objections

The current issue arose when a group of Nihangs approached the couple’s restaurant in Jalandhar and issued a warning in their absence. The Nihangs objected to the couple’s reels, specifically those featuring dance videos, stating that the content was inappropriate for a Sikh couple to release. They warned of serious consequences if the couple did not stop making and posting such content.

In addition to issuing threats, the Nihangs also contacted the police to request legal action against the couple. Concerned for their safety, the couple filed a petition with the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking protection.

High Court’s Intervention

In response to the petition, the High Court issued a Notice to the Punjab Government, asking for a reply on the matter. The court also directed the government to ensure the couple’s safety by providing them with adequate security in light of the threats.

The Kullhad Pizza couple’s case highlights the growing intersection of social media, personal expression, and cultural sensitivities, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the legal arena.
