Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon on Tuesday questioned Congress and Rahul Gandhi over the delay in securing justice for victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh massacre, ahead of the Congress leader’s scheduled rally in Sangrur.
Reacting to the Congress’ proposed ‘Insaaf Rally’, Dhillon asked why the party was silent on justice for the victims despite 42 years having passed. He alleged that Congress had continued to shield those involved in the massacre.
Dhillon said Sikhs were killed in Delhi and several other cities, and asked Rahul Gandhi to explain why Congress leaders allegedly involved in the conspiracy had received protection from the party and why strict action had not been taken against them.
He also questioned why Congress, despite being in power for a long period, had failed to ensure justice for victims’ families, many of whom, he said, had spent decades seeking justice.
Dhillon asked Rahul Gandhi whether he would acknowledge the historical and moral responsibility of his family and party and apologise to Sikhs in Punjab and across the country.
He further said Punjab was not merely a place for election campaigning but a place where political leaders must answer difficult questions of history. He urged Rahul Gandhi not to evade the issue at the Sangrur rally and to give clear answers to the people.
