The Chairpersons Justice Jasbir Singh, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Member and Dr. Babu Ram, Technical Expert of Monitoring Committee constituted by the Hon’ble National Green Tribunal for action plan for management of solid waste in the State, reviewed the progress regarding status of implementation of the activities as mentioned in District Environment Plan, Patiala.
The Committee also visited Head Office of Punjab Pollution Control Board at Patiala, where the committee alongwith Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board; Prof Adarsh Pal Vig, Member Secretary of the Board Er Krunesh Garg and other officers of the Board released the “Manual on Operation & Maintenance of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs)”. The Committee was apprised of the efforts made by PPCB for dissemination of real time data in the public domain regarding online continuous monitoring stations installed by industries/ STPs/ Rivers.
The committee was given live demonstration by Member Secretary of the Board in the presence of Chairman, PPCB and other officers of the Board. In an effort to encourage the society to shun the use of single use plastic, the Monitoring Committee was gifted jute bags and copper water bottles as an gesture by the Chairman of the Board.
The Committees also visited the bio composter site in the premises of the Board, where the horticulture waste alongwith other bio-degradable waste is being converted into manure with the help of mechanical bio-composter. Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board also shown the vermicomposting beds established in the Board for experimentation. The Chairman, Monitoring Committee appreciated the efforts being made by the Punjab Pollution Control Board.
