In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police today busted a gang involved in the smuggling of liquor illegally in the city, amidst ongoing curfew/ lockdown, by arresting three persons along with 316 cases of liquor of various brands.
Divulging the details, the Commissioner of Police Jalandhar Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the Commissionerate Police had got a tip off that Rajinder kumar alias Raju s/o Pritam Dass r/o Makhdoompura was running a racket of supplying illegal liquor in the city, during the curfew imposed due to Covid 19, for which he has set a godown at Raj Nagar.
Mr. Bhullar said that in order to ensure that no one gets skeptical of this business Raju had kept tenants at the Godown from where the liquor was supplied in various parts of the city in Bolero number PB 08 CH 9646. Subsequently, he said that a team of CIA Staff I raided the premises and arrested three accused identified as Amit Kumar alias Ajay, Ankit and Ram Sewak with 316 case of illicit liquor.
The Commissioner of Police said that Amit Kumar alias Ajay s/o Kaushal was a resident of village Visholi in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh, Ankit s/o Dinesh was resident of village Chantpur in Bihar and Ram Sewak s/o Natha was resident of village Khera in district Unnao of Uttar Pradesh. He said that all the three youth were tenants of Rajinder Kumar alias Raju and were involved in this business of supplying liquor illegally during the lockdown/ curfew.
Mr. Bhullar said that a FIR under section 188 of IPC, 61-1-14 Excise Act has been registered against all the four accused and further investigation was going in the case adding that raids were being done by several Police parties to nab Rajinder Kumar alias Raju, who was the kingpin of gang.
