Jalandhar DC launches website of Virsa Vihar, sanctions Rs.50k more for renovation

In its endeavour to disseminate all forms of art and cultural activities globally from Jalandhar, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Wednesday launched the website of Virsa Vihar’ www.virsavihar.org.

Deputy Commissioner said that the website would become a catalyst in connecting the artists and young generation with the rich and glorious heritage of the state.

He said through website, artists, educational institutes or other organizations through the world can register themselves to showcase their artwork in Jalandhar at free of cost by using the platform of Virsa Vihar, in the heart of the city.

The Deputy Commissioner also announced to give a financial grant of Rs 50000 for renovation works in the building and solicited maximum participation of the people for this noble cause.

Thori said that no stone would be left unturned for developing this place as a socio-cultural epi-centre of the region. He told that cultural events would be organized regularly in Virsa Vihar in future which cannot be held due to the current situation of Covid pandemic presently.

The Deputy Commissioner said the primary motive of these activities would be to ensure that our future generations stay connected with our culture. He said that it was all the more important as the youngsters are forgetting our rich culture.

He said that the open-air theatre is being built at the cost of Rs 10 lakh in the Virsa Vihar and would become a centre of attraction for the people. The gallery and multi-purpose hall are being revamped here, he added.

He thanked educational institutes and other individuals who have come forward to preserve the rich and glorious heritage and contributing to the development of Virsa Vihar.

On the occasion, District Head GoG Major General (Retd) Balwinder Singh, Alok Sondhi, Captain Inderjeet Singh Dhami, Dr Inderjeet Singh, veteran journalist Deepak Jalandhari, and others were present.
