Jakhar dares Modi to clarify his government’s stand on NRC and detention centers

Chandigarh, December 23, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

The President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr. Sunil Jakhar, challenged the Prime Minister Narender Modi to clarify his government’s stand on setting up of detention centers to detain the immigrants and National Register of Citizenship (NRC).

Describing the statement given by the Prime Minister yesterday at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi totally irresponsible, Mr. Jakhar said that Union government led by BJP is dividing the society on religion basis.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s yesterday statement in which PM said that the government has no idea about setting up a detention center, Mr Jakhar shared a copy of the government’s reply in the Rajya Sabha with the media.

In reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on July 24, 2019, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nitianand Rai had said that the Government of India had wrote to all states and Union Territories on January 9, 2019 by a letter regarding Model Detention Center Manual, and other arrangements to be made in detention centers.

Mr Jakhar said that the statements of the Prime Minister and his minister’s statements in Parliament were contradictory to each other. He dared the Prime Minister that if his statement was correct then he should remove his Minister, who made a misleading statement in Parliament. And if the Minister’s statement is correct, then the Prime Minister should apologize to the country.

Mr. Jakhar also took a firm stand against the Modi government for such claims, under which the government is claiming that there was never any discussion on the NRC. He advised the Prime Minister to look at his own party’s manifesto, in which, at point number 7, it has clearly stated that BJP will implement the NRC.

Mr. Jakhar said that British rulers started the campaign to divide the India on religion based, but they could not succeed and now their pending task is being completed by BJP led NDA Government.

He said that in fact it is not possible for the BJP to run the government successfully and to save their face from their failure these BJP people are dividing the society by creating religious hatred in the country. He said that the youth of the country are demanding education and employment while the Modi government is sending police to the universities.

He said that Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had first raised his voice against the NRC and for this reason, the Central Government has withheld Rs.6000 crore of Punjab illegally.

He said that such behavior of the central government is contrary to the federal structure of the country. He said that the Congress party will never allow the central government’s intentions to tamper with the constitution of the country.
