Impact Tandrust Punjab Mission – Hygiene conditions improve, Halwais request for premise inspection

Chandigarh, October 24, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

In a bid to emerge clean out of the adulteration contentions, the Halwai associations are voluntarily approaching the Food Safety Commisionerate with requests for their premises-inspection, informed KS Pannu, Commissioner Food and Drug Administration Punjab.

He said that most of the halwai associations believe that mis- deeds of a couple of black sheep has brought bad name to the entire trade. To clear the misconception in the minds of public they want sampling of their products done before the Diwali festival so that the shadow of adulteration may not eclipse their sales, informed Pannu.

“Ensuring quality food articles for all is our target”, said Pannu adding that “we are alive to the concerns of Halwais and will increase inspections to accommodate all so that festival sales become a win-win situation for buyers as well as sellers”.

The fact that inspection/sampling is being invited is a clear indication that Tandrust Punjab Mission has been successful to a large extent in ensuring availability of quality food articles for the public, said Pannu. But, we will not lower the guard and keep a sharp vigil, asserted Commissioner Food and Drug Administration.

Updating on the ongoing inspection scenario, Pannu said that extensive raids and sampling is on. An interesting scenario that has emerged out of inspections is that the hygiene condition in the halwai workshops has improved remarkably, said he. “We have been consistently sensitizing the halwais on the issue and have been able to make a dent”, claimed Pannu.
