As part of the ongoing state-wide anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’, an encroached property belonging to the possession of a drug smuggler was demolished today at Gorakhnath Colony, Barhmajra, under Police Station Balongi, in a coordinated action by the police authorities and Village Panchayat.
The demolished property belonged to Sanjay Shah S/o Poshan Shah, resident of Gorakhnath Colony, Barhmajra, who is involved in multiple criminal cases related to drug trafficking. The illegal construction had encroached upon Panchayat land.
The demolition drive was carried out under the supervision of SP (PBI) Ms Deepika Singh and DSP Kharar Sh. Karan Singh Sandhu in the presence of BDPO Stawant Singh Randhawa following due legal procedure, with adequate police deployment to ensure smooth execution of the operation.
Sharing details, SSP SAS Nagar Sh. Harmandeep Singh Hans, IPS, informed that the accused is involved in five FIRs, out of which three cases are registered under the NDPS Act at Phase 1, Mohali and Balongi Police Stations. He stated that such actions are aimed at dismantling the illegal infrastructure created through the proceeds of drug-related crimes.
“Under the ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign, sustained and coordinated police action is being undertaken to break the financial backbone of drug smugglers. Illegal properties raised through drug money will not be allowed to exist,” said the SSP.
The SSP further reiterated that strict and continuous action against drug networks will continue to ensure a drug-free society.
