High Court announces verdict on School Fee issue – Schools can charge Tuition Fee – Read HC Order

Chandigarh, June 30, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today ruled that the Schools can charge Admission & Tuition Fee but no hike will be allowed for current academic session.

The schools have not been allowed to hike the fee structure for current academic session. They would be charging according to the 2019-20 fee structure.

Justice Nirmaljit Kaur said the schools were entitled to collect tuition fee irrespective of offering online classes during the lockdown.

The Court also asked schools to continue with online teaching during the lockdown or any future lockdowns so that the studies of the students do not get adversely affected.

Justice Nirmaljit Kaur asked School Managements to charge only actual expenditure incurred under the annual charges for the period schools remained closed and recover only such genuine expenditure incurred by them. The schools have been directed not to recover any charge for lockdown period for any activity or facility towards which no expenditure was incurred.

Announcing relief for the parents, Justice Nirmaljit Kaur said, parents not in a position to pay school fee will have to move an application along with proof of their financial status and the school shall take a decision regarding giving concession or exempting the fee of the student.
