Guru Nanak Dev University To Launch AI Langar Initiative; World Punjabi Conference concluded with a visionary declaration

Guru Nanak Dev University’s three-day World Punjabi Conference concluded with a visionary declaration, “A New Thinking of Service-Oriented Technology for Punjab’s Future.” The event, held on the occasion of Punjabi Mother Tongue Day, emphasized leveraging technology to preserve and promote the Punjabi language and culture.

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh announced the university’s plan to introduce “AI Langar,” aiming to harness artificial intelligence for the greater good of society. “Just as langar symbolizes service and equality, AI Langar will make technology accessible, transparent, and beneficial for all,” he said.

The conference highlighted four key areas: making Punjabi a leading digital language, creating a shared data repository, skill development in AI and machine learning, and ensuring ethical use of technology. Prof. Singh appealed to the global Punjabi community to collaborate in this endeavor, stating, “Let’s work together to make Punjab a hub of technological innovation and progress.”

Notable attendees included Padma Bhushan Sardar Tarlochan Singh, Padma Shri Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, and other prominent figures from academia, politics, and industry. The conference concluded with honors for distinguished contributors and pledges of support, including Rs. 1 crore donations from Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney and Kanwarpal Singh Suri for establishing an AI center at GNDU.

The conference featured in-depth discussions on the development of the Punjabi language, its global relevance, preservation of cultural heritage and its integration with modern technology. Various academic sessions over the three days provided a platform for participants to share their insights and experiences.

A major highlight of the conference was the special honour conferred upon distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions in their respective fields. These included Bhai Mahinder Singh (UK), Sardar Surinder Pal Singh Oberoi, US-based entrepreneur and philanthropist Charanjit Bath and Tut Brothers, Bhai Swinderpal Singh (for his service in constructing the university’s new roundabout), noted scientist Kanwarpal Singh Suri, and industrialist Baldev Kang. These recognitions served as a source of inspiration for the younger generation.

In this conference, Prof. H. S. Saini, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. K. S. Chahal, Registrar, Dr. Manjinder Singh, Head School of Punjabi studies, Dr. Sukhdev Singh, Dr. Baljit Kaur Riar, Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu (Vice-Chancellor, Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar), Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal (Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana), Dr. Sarbjinder Singh (Vice-Chancellor, Sunny Oberoi Vivek Sadan Futuristic University, Sri Anandpur Sahib), Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal (MLA), S. Gurjeet Singh Aujla (Member of Parliament), S. Surjit Singh Rakhra (Former Minister, Punjab Government), S. Rajinder Singh Mehta (Member, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Amritsar), S. Jatinder Singh Bhatia (Mayor, Amritsar) also participated.
