Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized “Dog Show- 2024″ at its Ludhiana Campus. The Dog Show was inaugurated by Sh. Shubham Agarwal, IPS, Jt. Commissioner of Police, the chief guest of the show.
He spoke about the importance of domestic animals and companion animals throughout the evolution of society and the contribution of dogs. He spoke about the services extended by the University for the development of the livestock sector and lauded the efforts put in for organizing the dog show to create awareness about pet animals, especially dogs.
Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor spoke about the long running association of dogs with human civilization in his address.
He said that this relationship is all the more important in the modern world, especially in the cities where pets provide companionship to children and adults alike. He also highlighted the research, clinical and training facilities provided by the University for dogs and pet owners.
He said that the show would be beneficial for pet lovers as well as academicians and industry to develop a sustainable strategy for the development of this sector.
A souvenir consisting of selected articles on dog health and welfare was also released by the dignitaries. A special show of the Dog Squad of Indo Tibetan Border Police was organized during the inaugural session. The dogs of this squad exhibit an impressive presence with their daring acts.
Breed competitions were held across different categories of dogs. Dr Dhiraj Gupta, Organising Secretary informed that more than 100 owners showcased their dogs during the breed competition. The Dog Show witnessed a huge gathering of breeders, pet enthusiasts and audience. An exhibition of feed, health supplements and other accessories was also held by the industry.
A special awareness campaign was organised i.e. “The stray dog could be an ideal pet if cared properly”, to create awareness and end the stray animal menace.
Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor honoured the winners during valedictory ceremony. Dr. Ashwani Kumar, HoD Veterinary Medicine said that the exhibitions and breed competitions create awareness regarding health care of dogs and their welfare among the pet lovers. He thanked the organizing committee, judges, participants, pet lovers, media and representatives of the industry for being a part of the Dog Show.
