Gurdaas Maan shares story behind his cameo in SRK starrer ‘Veer-Zaara’

Mumbai, September 12, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjabi music legend Gurdas Maan recently shared his fond memories of working on the popular songs “Aisa Des Hai Mera” and “Lohri” from the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer *Veer-Zaara*.

The renowned singer not only lent his voice to these timeless tracks but also made an unexpected cameo in “Aisa Des Hai Mera”, performing Bhangra alongside SRK.

Maan revealed that this appearance was unplanned and happened at the request of the film’s legendary director, Yash Chopra.

A Special Connection with ‘Veer-Zaara’

In an interview with IANS, Gurdas Maan expressed his deep connection to both the film and its music. “The film *Veer-Zaara* and the songs ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera’ and ‘Lohri’ are very close to my heart. One of my fondest memories is how it all came together,” he shared. At the time of the film’s shooting, Maan was in Chandigarh, working on his own film *Des Hoya Pardes*. Interestingly, both *Veer-Zaara* and his movie were being filmed simultaneously, and Maan and Yash Chopra were staying at the same hotel.

The Unplanned Cameo in ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera’

Maan further explained how his cameo in the song came about. He had already recorded “Lohri” and parts of “Aisa Des Hai Mera” (the Mukhda and Jugni portions), but Yash Chopra had another idea. “One day, Yash ji told me that they were about to shoot ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera’, and since I was there and had lent my voice to the song, why not appear in it as well?” Maan recalled. He agreed to pause the filming of his own movie to join the shoot for *Veer-Zaara*, calling it a beautiful moment to be part of a song that represents the soul of the country.

A Timeless Film with Soulful Music

*Veer-Zaara*, which was originally released nearly 20 years ago, is set to be re-released in theaters, rekindling memories of the powerful love story between an Indian Air Force pilot and a Pakistani woman. The film is cherished not only for its touching narrative but also for its heartwarming songs, which were composed by the late music maestro Madan Mohan.

The movie, directed by Yash Chopra, follows the story of Veer (played by Shah Rukh Khan), who is wrongfully imprisoned in Pakistan. The songs, including “Aisa Des Hai Mera”, have remained beloved by fans for their emotional depth and connection to the film’s themes of love and sacrifice.
