Under the special campaign being run against corruption in Haryana, the State Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV & ACB), Haryana has achieved another significant success today. After catching a GST department Superintendent red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹2,50,000, the Bureau has today arrested Inspector Naresh Kumar, posted in Central GST Bahadurgarh, in continuation of the same case. During the investigation, Naresh Kumar’s name was not only found in the FIR, but he was also clearly identified in the voice recording provided by the complainant. Furthermore, the statement of co-accused Bharat Meena revealed that both were jointly demanding a bribe from the complainant. Acting on this evidence, Inspector Devender of ACB Jhajjar apprehended Naresh Kumar today.
Confirmation of Complaint and Revelation of Bribe Demand
According to available information, the accused officer was demanding an illegal gratification of ₹2.50 lakh from the complainant for activating the complainant’s firm’s GST number. After confirming the authenticity of the complaint, the Bureau initiated prompt action and, through a well-planned trap, arrested Superintendent Bharat Meena along with the bribe amount from Bada Bhaiya Chowk, Village Basi, Gurugram. The Rohtak team had been monitoring the case for the last seven days, after which the second accused, Naresh Kumar, involved in the same matter, was also caught red-handed today.
Possible Involvement of More Officers Under Investigation
Preliminary investigation has indicated that more officers may be involved in this bribery case. The Bureau has made it clear that any officer or employee whose name surfaces during the investigation will face strict legal action. A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused, and an in-depth investigation is underway. The recovered amount has been sealed and secured for judicial proceedings.
Zero Tolerance Policy and Public Appeal
Bureau Chief Ajay Singhal stated that, under the State Government’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy against corruption, such stringent action will continue, and no incident of bribery by any officer or employee will be tolerated under any circumstances. He appealed to the public that if any government official demands a bribe for performing official work, they should immediately report it to the Haryana State Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Bureau on the toll-free numbers 1800-180-2022 or 1064.
