In a major development under Punjab Police’s ongoing drive against organised crime, the parents of foreign-based gangster Goldy Brar have been arrested in connection with a 2024 extortion case in Muktsar district.
Confirming the arrests on Monday, Muktsar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhimanyu Rana said that Brar’s father, Shamsher Singh, and mother, Preetpal Kaur, were taken into custody following investigations related to the case. The couple resides in Adesh Nagar in Muktsar, though their family originally belongs to Faridkot district.
Police officials said the case was registered last year on the complaint of a local resident who alleged extortion and related threats. Based on the evidence collected during the probe, action was initiated against the accused.
Goldy Brar, whose real name is Satinderjeet Singh, is one of the prime accused in the 2022 murder of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. He had earlier publicly claimed responsibility for the killing, which had sent shockwaves across the country.
The latest arrests come amid a large-scale campaign by Punjab Police to dismantle criminal networks operating from abroad. Under this initiative, authorities have identified and mapped locations linked to nearly 1,200 associates of around 60 foreign-based gangsters, along with about 600 of their family members allegedly connected to unlawful activities.
According to officials, Brar is currently believed to be residing in the United States. He had moved to Canada in 2017 on a student visa before becoming actively involved in organised crime.
Investigators said that Brar was earlier associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang but distanced himself from the group last year. He is now reportedly linked with the Brar–Rohit Godara–Kala Jatheri network.
In 2024, the central government designated Goldy Brar as a terrorist under anti-terrorism laws for his alleged role in smuggling sophisticated weapons, ammunition, and explosives into India using drones. These consignments were reportedly intended for carrying out targeted killings and other criminal activities.
Senior police officials reiterated that the state government remains committed to eliminating organised crime and will continue taking strict action against individuals and families found supporting gangster operations.
