GNDU rises to 11th among India’s top government universities in India Today–MDRA 2026 rankings

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has secured the 11th position among India’s Top General (Government) Universities in the India Today–MDRA 2026 Rankings, reaffirming its position as one of the country’s leading state public universities and a premier higher education institution in Punjab.

GNDU has improved its national ranking from 12th in 2025 to 11th in 2026. The India Today–MDRA ranking was announced in the August 10, 2026 edition of India Today.

The annual ranking, jointly conducted by India Today and Marketing and Development Research Associates (MDRA), evaluates universities on parameters including reputation and governance, academic and research excellence, infrastructure and living experience, and placement, learning and development.

The university said the improvement reflects the collective efforts of its faculty, researchers, students, officers, non-teaching staff, alumni and other stakeholders.

The achievement is particularly significant for Punjab, with GNDU continuing to strengthen its national academic profile through teaching, research, innovation, industry interaction, extension activities and student development.

The recognition also highlights the university’s efforts towards improving academic standards, research output, employability, infrastructure and institutional governance. GNDU has been working to expand its research ecosystem, strengthen industry collaborations and promote international academic partnerships while providing education aligned with global standards.

Expressing his satisfaction over the achievement, GNDU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh congratulated the faculty members, researchers, students, officers, employees, alumni and other stakeholders for their collective contribution.

He said the recognition was a testament to the university’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards, promoting cutting-edge research, fostering innovation and creating a vibrant learning environment.

Prof. Singh also said GNDU has remained committed to implementing the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 while preparing students to become competent professionals and responsible citizens.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the university’s continued efforts were strengthening its research ecosystem, enhancing industry collaborations, promoting international academic partnerships and facilitating quality education in line with global standards.
